OutStart’s John Alonso to Discuss Benefits of Mobile Learning to Law Enforcement at the 2010 STARS Workshop

John Alonso, Co-founder and CTO of OutStart, will present “Mobile Learning for a Mobile Workforce” to the attendees of the STARS Workshop in San Antonio on May 25.  Public safety professionals, including members from local, state and federal law enforcement, will learn how mobile technology can provide invaluable training and refresher information to officers and other public safety individuals while deployed in the field.  The workshop is a collaborative effort by federal and state agencies from across North America.  Collectively these agencies are responsible for Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) training for more than one-million criminal justice professionals in North America.

The STARS Workshop takes place from May 23-26 in San Antonio, Texas.  The hallmark of the conference is to provide practical information and tools capable of being used and implemented immediately upon the attendees return to work.  Mr. Alonso is an educator and frequent speaker on learning and knowledge-sharing technologies; his resume includes more than 25 years of experience with software development and over 10 years as an instructor.

Quotes

Bob Morris, STARS Workshop Chair

“Criminal Justice practitioners work irregular hours spending more time in the field than in an office environment.  Delivering mission critical training to these professionals remains a challenging and daunting task.  Learning content delivered via mobile devices, in short lessons, significantly improves on-demand training opportunities, increases officer-safety awareness, and simultaneously minimizes fiscal impact.”

John Alonso, OutStart CTO

“Mobile learning is less about a device, and much more about reaching the right content anytime.   The characteristic of mobile that changes everything, is that you can count on individuals always having access.   They don’t need a specific device, or a specified place … their phone is always with them. This, coupled with simple systems that allow for effective development and delivery, enables abilities that we have never seen before.   Mobile workforces, like in law enforcement, are best positioned to reap these benefits first.”
