Incipient, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent switch storage software, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved and issued three technology patents for its storage virtualization technology. The three patented technologies protect various components found within the unique split-path architecture of the Incipient Network Storage Platform™ (NSP) software suite. These patents are instrumental in the delivery of reliable, efficient storage services for storage area networks (SAN). The patent awards are for the following technology innovations:
Fast-path caching (U.S. Patent 6,986,015 B2), Locking technique for control and synchronization (U.S. Patent 6,973,549 B1) and, Dynamic and variable length extents (U.S. Patent 6,959,373 B2).
Each patent application was filed on August 13, 2002 and awarded in the fourth quarter of 2005 and the first quarter of 2006.
“These three patent awards highlight key software technologies for the complex task of embedding a distributed hierarchy of storage services within intelligent networks,” said Rich Testardi, Incipient director of Virtualization Architecture. “They represent essential software elements of a highly scalable, modular and robust fabric-based virtualization product.”
“We are pleased to have received these patents we applied for during our initial research and development phase,” said Nicos Vekiarides, Incipient vice president, Product Strategy and Technology. “The patents further validate Incipient’s leadership in bringing to market intelligent switch-based solutions that offer unparalleled scalability, functionality and ease of use in SAN environments.”
