GlassHouse Technologies strategic consulting and operational services have helped footwear retailer Footstar, Inc. streamline its data backup processes to align with its Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) strategy and operational needs, GlassHouse announced today.
During a three-month strategic consulting engagement, GlassHouse made recommendations for modifying Footstar’s Tivoli Storage Manager backup environment and re-designing its disaster recovery plan, then implemented the recommendations that Footstar approved. After the initial engagement, Footstar hired GlassHouse Operational Support Services (OSS) to remotely manage Footstar’s backup procedures around the clock. Once Footstar made the decision to have GlassHouse perform the remote services, it took only one month to plan, re-design, implement and cutover successfully.
“After exploring a number of options for performing data backups we determined that GlassHouse’s approaches were the best for our needs,” said Footstar Chief Information Officer Stuart Werner. “With GlassHouse’s assistance we’re achieving our objectives. We found GlassHouse to be one of the very few consulting and support organizations whose core competency is in-depth knowledge and understanding of the complexities of backups and disaster recovery needs involving large volume databases across disparate systems. The icing on the cake then became GlassHouse’s ability to cost effectively, remotely manage our backups.”
Werner said he plans to explore opportunities with GlassHouse in the future to further streamline Footstar’s storage and backup operations for maximum performance and efficiency.
“Our goal for companies like Footstar is to become a trusted advisor in an increasingly complex and risk-laden technology discipline,” said GlassHouse CEO Mark Shirman. “Backup and disaster recovery have long been thought of as second-tier processes, but with markets and regulatory environments changing constantly, companies need well-defined storage and backup procedures to support their business goals and stay in compliance. Our experience with companies in many different markets gives us a broad perspective and variety of skills that benefit our customers.”
