GlassHouse, a leading independent IT infrastructure consulting and services firm, today announces the launch of The GlassHouse Academy, the consulting industry’s only real apprenticeship programme for experienced professionals. The Academy provides a transformational development path for young professionals with technology experience, who are disillusioned by their lack of opportunity for growth in their current environment.
The Academy aims to create a fully-rounded and mature technical consultant within just 12 months. The intensive process caters to both technical skills involved in any consulting environment (transitional training) as well as softer professional-skills aspects, such as character assessment, situation analysis, self-awareness and personal presentation (a full transformational process).
Each Academy Consultant is allotted both a mentor and a development manager. The mentor works with the Consultant in their field to help their professionally and technical growth. At the same time, the dedicated full-time development manager ensures they have the right developmental opportunities in the form of training, project experiences, coaching and formal performance management. This ensures that the Consultant’s development contains the right mix of both classroom and in-field experience throughout the duration of the programme.
David Docherty, GlassHouse UK professional services director comments, “The Academy focuses heavily on creating a ‘full-package’ consultant. All too often individuals find themselves railroaded or restricted after their first 18 months of on-the-job training. Many of the promises made during their romance or honeymoon periods have not been met, and show no sign of materialising. That’s why we started the Academy. Individuals with the right skills should not be held back by over-reaching hierarchies, or inadequate and incomplete training schedules, and the Academy overcomes this. It provides a clear career path with no uncertainties, and no career development restrictions.”
GlassHouse is currently two months into its first pilot programme of The Academy, with six Trainee Technical Consultants currently on board within the Design and Implementation division. Feedback from both the Academy consultants and clients themselves has been so positive, that the company decided to launch the programme throughout the rest of the business.
Docherty comments, “The original number of applicants for our Academy pilot was amazing by itself, but perhaps more importantly, it reflected a very real need for such a programme in this sphere of business. The interview process is extremely rigorous and we make this very clear at the outset, however, it is also an in-depth analytical process, in which constant feedback is given to participants. We’ve had extremely positive commentary on the process so far, as it’s designed to aid both parties, not just ourselves in the selection process. The excellence of these individuals is also clearly represented in the feedback we’ve had from some of the clients they work with.”
