Vela Systems is pleased to announce that it has been nominated for the 2008 Hospitality Design Award for Technological Innovation for The Liberty Boston luxury Hotel project, in cooperation with Suffolk Construction of Boston, Massachusetts. By using Vela Systems’ software on Motion Tablet PCs, Suffolk Project Superintendents such as John Gillis were able to personally cut their work-time in half. Previously, Gillis needed to capture field notes on-site on paper floor plans, transpose the data into a computer back at his office, make photocopies of the marked up plans, and then distribute the information to all involved; a process that entailed hours of work each day.
With the Vela-configured Motion Tablet PC, Gillis had electronic copies of all floor plans available to him in the field, allowing him to mark the precise locations and responsibilities of all work and punch list items that he encountered. Upon returning to the office, the information could then instantly be sent to all job participants automatically. As a result, Gillis has been able to finish these tasks in half the time. Such time savings are typical with the solution and customers routinely report savings of five to 10 hours per week per person, accelerating project delivery by up to two days per month, resulting in tremendous cost savings.
“In the realm of hotel architecture, it is hard to imagine a more original design scenario than a Boston luxury hotel carved out of an iconic 19th century jail. But when the city is one as passionate about history as Boston and the structure is none other than the storied Charles Street Jail, the vision of The Liberty Boston luxury Hotel comes sharply into focus. Built in 1851, the Charles Street Jail is one of the best examples of the “Boston Granite Style” of the mid-19th century. Renovated in 2007, the interior design reflects a passionate commitment to authenticity while a more playful attitude defines its day-to-day style. Within the main building, there are guest rooms, meeting rooms, a grand ballroom and one of the city’s hottest nightlife scenes. Adjacent to a historical gallery of images and tales from the previous 150 years, a 16-story tower houses 280 guest rooms with the latest in luxury and technology, enhanced by expansive views of Boston.” (Adapted from http://www.libertyhotel.com/index.html)
