Colubris Networks Inc. of Waltham has added a radio frequency interference reduction element to its family of wireless local area network (WLAN) products with its acquisition of Kiwi Networks Inc. in Campbell, Calif. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“As the wireless industry moves into 2005, we are predicting that the industry will start to see interference and performance issues in high-traffic network areas,” said Barry Fougere, president and CEO of Colubris. “Kiwi has developed a lot of code and intellectual property that will help us maximize throughput and minimize overcrowding.”
Kiwi is an early-stage company that makes cellular wi-fi technologies and automated RF planning and control products. Colubris’ WLAN systems incorporating the new technology are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2005.
The acquisition of Kiwi comes on the heels of a $15 million third round of funding for Colubris, announced earlier this month.
The Kiwi team will remain intact and its California headquarters now serves as Colubris’ West Coast sales and development office. Shimon Scherzer, co-founder, president and CEO of Kiwi, will continue to lead the engineering team on the West Coast.
