Marking a year of continued growth and momentum, Colubris Networks has been named a 2004 “Hot Start-up” by Telecommunications Magazine. A global provider of intelligent wireless LAN (WLAN) access solutions for public hotspots and enterprise networks, the company was recognized for delivering secure, cost-effective, easily deployed and manageable Wi-Fi solutions.
“Choosing our list of annual Hot Start-ups is always difficult and this year was no exception,” said Sue O’Keefe, editor-in-chief of Telecommunications Magazine. “We believe Colubris Networks possesses the necessary ingredients for continued success in the Wi-Fi market: strong financial backing and the wisdom to spend it wisely; marketing savvy; proven leadership talent; and a unique product/architecture portfolio with the ability to make a strong impact in the telecom industry.”
The Hot Start-up award highlights impressive and ongoing accomplishments for Colubris Networks. During the first half of 2004, the company has:
Announced significant agreements with Swisscom Eurospot, the largest pan-European provider of hotspot services with over 1900 public hotspots deployed; STSN, a worldwide leading provider of wired and wireless broadband services to the hospitality industry; and Broadreach Networks, a venture backed by British Telecom, Intel Corp. and Virgin that operates one of the largest broadband Internet networks in the UK, serving more than 25 million customers.
Shipped the next generation of the company’s leadership “Hotspot-in-a-box” solution.
Delivered its secure enterprise WLAN solution, including the Colubris Networks Management System (CNMS), which provides centralized management and control for the company’s leadership family of distributed, intelligent WLAN Access Points.
Introduced the industry’s first truly multi-service Virtual Access Point capability in combination with advanced voice over Wi-Fi capabilities, enabling high quality voice and secure corporate data via a single, converged Wi-Fi network platform.
Secured $13 million in Series C funding. Involving both new and existing investors, Colubris Networks is using the capital to expand sales, business development, marketing and engineering efforts. The company also augmented its senior management team with former executives from companies such as Cisco, Lucent and 3Com.
“Wi-Fi continues to present compelling business opportunities to both public and private network operators,” said Barry Fougere, president and CEO of Colubris Networks. “We’re honored to accept the Hot Start-up award as validation of the Colubris vision and our momentum in this rapidly growing market.”
Presented annually, Telecommunications Magazine honors 10 standout companies that possess the innovative technology and executive leadership to fuel continued growth in the telecommunications industry. Published in the mid-June issue, the Hot Start-up awards will be presented at a ceremony this week at SUPERCOMM 2004 – one of the premier industry events for service providers and private network managers.
