Colubris Networks, the leading global provider of intelligent wireless LANs (WLANs) for enterprises and service providers, today announced it has appointed Tom Racca as vice president of marketing. Racca, who brings more than 25 years of high-tech marketing, sales and consulting experience to Colubris, is the latest high-profile executive to join the company. In April, industry veteran and serial entrepreneur Rob Scott joined Colubris as its president and CEO. The addition of Scott and Racca to the Colubris management team strongly positions the company to further build on its record-setting growth and exploit its fundamental technology advantage to capture a significant share of the emerging 802.11n market.
“Colubris has built the most advanced technology and future-proof architecture to give companies an easy, cost-effective migration path to 802.11n,” said Scott. “We needed a vice president of marketing with a ‘take no prisoners’ approach to bringing our technically superior products to market on a broad scale. His extensive experience in marketing and sales in the high-tech industry, along with his aggressive approach, makes Tom the ideal person to fill this role.”
Racca has a wealth of experience in the industry. He served as vice president of marketing at WLAN provider Chantry Networks and played an instrumental role in its successful acquisition by Siemens AG in 2005. After the acquisition, Racca served as vice president of wireless solutions for Siemens Communications. Following his experience at Siemens, Racca headed Racca Associates, delivering executive advisory services to leading companies in the wireless, networking and communications industries. Earlier in his career, Racca was the co-founder and vice-president of sales and marketing for iQ NetSolutions, innovators in call management and advanced IP telephony solutions. Racca’s experience also includes senior positions at KPMG, Digital Equipment Corporation, Avid Technology, Proteon and Prime Computer, Inc.
“Colubris is a true pioneer in the industry,” said Racca. “Its distributed intelligence and optimized WLAN architecture give the company a unique advantage over everyone else in the space. No other company is better positioned to deliver solutions for the impending mass migration to 802.11n. I am excited about helping Colubris capitalize on this terrific opportunity.”
Racca’s arrival rounds out the company’s management team, which is comprised of an impressive roster of heavy-hitters who have led high-growth wireless and networking companies such as IPeria, Cisco Systems, Shiva, Lucent, Eicon Technology and 3Com, as well as a host of early stage technology and services companies.
Colubris recently launched the Colubris MultiService Access Point 625 (MAP-625), which gives organizations the only centrally managed WLAN networking solution to enable migration from legacy standards to 802.11n without disruptive upgrades, architectural changes or additional peripheral equipment. Using dual radios, the MAP-625 provides 802.11n clients with more than four times the performance of current generation WLANs, while simultaneously supporting legacy 802.11a/b/g devices at their full speeds.
