Colubris Networks announced a family of dual radio Wireless LAN (WLAN) platforms today that support multi-mode 802.11a/b/g, including the industry’s first support for high capacity dual 802.11g or dual 802.11a radios in a single WLAN access device.
The new platforms are the CN3300 WLAN Services Controller and CN330 Access Device. They are software-configurable to operate as an Access Point, WLAN Monitor or Wireless Distribution System (WDS) Bridge on either radio, providing the advanced performance, coverage and future proofing required by service provider and enterprise customers. With this solution network managers and IT directors can deploy multiple services or applications – such as data, video and voice – on a WLAN at half the cost and installation time of other solutions.
“Colubris Networks’ CN3300 and CN330 are strategic products for service providers offering a range of flexible deployment alternatives. Netmarks, which is a leading partner of Juniper Networks and Colubris, has already received significant interest for these platforms from leading operators in Japan,” said Kazuhiko Shirai, executive officer and general manager, Service Provider Solutions Division, NETMARKS, Inc. “Simultaneous 802.11 a/b/g capabilities, along with Colubris’ leading Voice over Wi-Fi implementation, means that service providers can support all mobile devices on their networks. Having a software-configurable WLAN Monitor or WDS Bridge in each device also solves a number of deployment challenges for service providers at a very competitive price.”
Previously, customers were limited to 802.11a + b/g devices that used separate radios dedicated to each band. The CN3300 and CN330 simplify deployment and expand capacity with support for two simultaneous channels using any combination of the 802.11a/b/g operating modes.
Both products offer the flexibility to dedicate one radio to WLAN Monitor or WDS Bridge modes. The WLAN Monitor provides full spectrum scanning, rogue AP detection and RF monitoring. By operating one radio as a WLAN Monitor, users cost-effectively eliminate the performance penalty incurred by access devices that simultaneously manage traffic and background scanning. Operating one radio as a WDS Bridge also expands capacity and coverage while eliminating the need for cabling to locations not easily accessible with a wired network. Both platforms are centrally managed by the Colubris Networks Management System (CNMS).
Availability
The CN3300 and CN330 are available now through Colubris’ global sales distribution and value-added reseller channels.
