Colubris Launches MultiService WLAN Controllers

Colubris Networks Inc. attacked the wireless/wireline integration market and publicly announced the InMotion MultiService Controller (MSC) 5000 series family today at Wi-Fi/VoWi-Fi Planet in Baltimore. The InMotion MSC 5500 is engineered for large campus and enterprise deployments and scales to 200 wireless access points serving thousands of users. Wave of consolidation sweeps maturing Wi-Fi field

The wireless Internet, or Wi-Fi, industry is finally consolidating after sparking dozens of start-ups. Giant tech companies are leading the charge. This month, software maker McAfee (MFE) acquired Wireless Security. In March, networking giant Cisco Systems (CSCO), which earlier bought Wi-Fi gear maker Linksys, acquired Airespace. Electronics-maker Siemens (SI) recently purchased Chantry Networks. Smaller companies are merging, too. Last week, struggling equipment maker Proxim (PROXQ) agreed to be acquired by Moseley Associates, a maker of radio systems, for $21 million.
