Avaya Connects With Colubris

Another day, another partnership deal in the world of enterprise wireless LANs. Startup Colubris Networks Inc. has hooked up with Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV -message board), through the firm’s DeveloperConnection program. “Colubris is both an innovator member and Avaya compliance-tested,” Bob Olson, PR director at Colubris, told Unstrung today. Network Week – Controls unite wireless and wired systems

LAN management vendor Colubris Networks last week announced plans for a new generation of systems to help firms unify control of their wired and wireless networks. “People are telling us that Wi-Fi is mature enough for the enterprise, but that they don’t want duplication of wired and wireless information. They’re saying, ‘We want one set of user policies,'” said Pierre Trudeau, chief technology officer and co-founder of Colubris. Currently, most organisations manage their WLANs through a centralised management and control architecture, using browser-based consoles. These Continue reading →

Colubris wires its future to network convergence

Wireless networking vendor Colubris Networks Inc. claims it’s the first wireless LAN (WLAN) hardware vendor to unify wireless and wired networks in a single architecture. However, with the market moving toward convergence, once researcher said it could be the edge that the startup needs to stay afloat. The Waltham, Mass.-based firm’s architecture, coined Unified Services Network (USN), sets up a two-stage plan for delivering a vision of next-generation networking. The architecture encompasses wired and wireless services handled on the same infrastructure, with centralized management and Continue reading →

Today’s focus: Study indicates Wi-Fi security paradox

The results of the second-annual Webtorials “Wireless LAN State-of-the-Market Report” have just been published, revealing a mélange of enterprise trends, some expected, others not. The report, sponsored this year by Colubris Networks, analyzes responses from 419 subscribers to Webtorials, an educational Web site for the computer networking industry. Of those responding, over one-third were network managers learning to manage a business Wi-Fi environment (as opposed to classifying themselves as wireless experts or home users/hobbyists), and more than one-third worked for companies with 2,000 or more Continue reading →

Colubris lays out WLAN road map

Colubris Networks recently outlined a wireless LAN road map that includes new products to create one network infrastructure that can serve both wired and wireless users. The goal is to create an access layer Ethernet switch, loaded with Colubris’ wireless-LAN software, that will use recently announced switching silicon by vendors such as SiNett or Broadcom to process wired and wireless traffic. By contrast, many enterprise wireless LANs today use separate WLAN switches to process packets and handle roaming, authentication and management for wireless users. “The Continue reading →

Colubris rolls out unified WLAN/LAN architecture

Colubris Networks Inc. of Waltham this week unveiled its upcoming product and service strategy with the intention of being the first wireless local area network (WLAN) vendor to unify wireless and wired networks under the same architecture, dubbed the Unified Services Network. In announcing the new unified architecture, Colubris executives also provided a sneak peak of two new complementary products to be released some time this summer. The first, which the company claims will be an industry first, is its MultiService Controller. The controller, when Continue reading →
