Incipient, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent switch-resident storage software, today announced it has successfully closed a third round of $20 million in equity financing, bringing total equity capital raised to $55 million. Incipient Inc., a maker of virtualization software for OEM use by intelligent storage switches, has gotten $20 million in new funding. The Series C round brings Incipient's total to $55 million.

Software developer Incipient Inc. has closed on a $20 million third round of funding, bringing the firm's total venture backing to $55 million.

As U.S. venture capital investment in Canada returns to pre-2002 levels, Quebec has been the biggest benefactor. In the first nine months of 2004, U.S. venture capital firms invested C$88 million ($73 million) in 11 Quebec companies, compared with just C$51 million in all of 2003 and C$49 million in 2002. Colubris Networks Inc. of Waltham, a wireless technology start-up, is supplying gear for WiFi service along the inaugural route in Washington. The WiFi zone, which will remain available to the public through Saturday, extends around Capitol Hill and along the parade route to the White House. It adds to earlier zones of free WiFi — short for wireless fidelity, a wireless Internet access protocol — activated by Open Park, a nonprofit group.
